Perhaps the most honored western artist living today, Howard Terpning has chronicled the experiences of Native Americans with truth and passion. Some time ago, while hiking through the Bitterroot Mountains of Montana, Howard came across the vista that inspired On the Edge of the World. “This had long been an area patrolled by the Blackfoot,” he says, “and I wanted to acquire a feeling for their world and domain. When the land suddenly dropped off to a canyon below, I could imagine how Blackfoot scouts or hunters might have felt on the same spot over a century ago. There’s a sense of being able to see forever....”
