Norm ClasenNorm Clasen: My career began in the mid-sixties after a few years of ski bumming  in Aspen, Colorado. There, I opened a graphic arts studio and began doing my own photography. Soon I had photos published in numerous U.S. magazines along with some European publications. The graphic studio thrived but photography was my passion.

My assignments broadened into sports, fashion and finally advertising. They say dreams come true and for me it was the opportunity of working for over 25 years as a freelance photographer on numerous accounts including Marlboro. During my travels I made friends with numerous ranchers and began collecting western images with a focus on horses. I have always marveled at the sheer power, grace and beauty of horses. When in full flight they are pure magic and that is what I have tried to capture in these images.

My photos usually reflect natural elements as the primary focus. I've always found it challenging to film in dust, rain and snow and love pushing light to its limit. These conditions have given me many of my favorite images.

In some cases I have altered these photos to create an artistic quality that I feel enhances them. They take on a painting-like feeling but maintain their photographic quality. I refer to it as artography, and I believe it is only in its infancy.

All these photos were taken using 35mm equipment in either film or digital formats and many a camera or lens was destroyed putting this collection together.

These images have been in my private collection until recently. I am now offering them as fine art prints through my website and in select galleries. Each print is personally signed and printed with archival inks. I select the finest paper or canvas finishes available to best capture the mood of each print.

My wife Laura and I reside on a ranch in Basalt about 30 minutes from Aspen. We live at the base of 12,950 foot Mount Sopris with our horses and Max the Wonderdog.  We are forever grateful to be surrounded with ever changing beauty at every turn.
