Steamboat Springs Winter Carnival 2009!
The Winter Carnival in Steamboat Springs began as a way to help the local community cope with the long Steamboat winter.  With as many months of snow as we recieve in Steamboat a bout of cabin fever is sure to happen once in a while!  Today, The Winter Carnival has become a way for everyone, locals and tourists alike to celebrate winter in the Yampa Valley.
Every February Steamboat closes down mainstreet for a huge number of thrilling and fun filled winter competitions and events.  The fun includes such events as an outdoor adventure film/slide show festival, ski jumping, dual slalom bicycle race, snowboarding jam session, tubing party, pancake breakfast, soda pop slalom, telemark revival, international muzzleloading biathlon, the diamond hitch parade which includes the High School band on skis, street events with horse and rider pulling kids on skis or shovels down main street, and the night show with a huge fireworks display and the famous Lighted Man.
